Nigeria is home to more than 190 million people; Inherently growing at a big rate of 2.60%. About 70.71% of the total population are below the age of 30, the unemployment rate is increasing alarmingly with 43.9 million people living with no job. Around 6 million people leave the country every year in search of greener pasture with 90% leaving for good.
The Nigerian dream is far becoming obsolete as poverty, crime, unemployment, illiteracy and diseases have become a thorn in the flesh of many people.
The absence of hope yields waywardness as many Nigerians have ventured into internet frauds, robbery and other illicit behaviors out of desperation to make ends meet. Ignorance is gaining traction as the hope on education is dwindling every day with corruption eating deep into the fabrics of the society.
The mortality rate is increasing with very few people able to afford adequate treatment in suitable hospitals, home and abroad. The average Nigerian mother cannot afford basic ante-natal and post-natal care, HIV counselling and treatment is on the low with excessive substance abuse on the rise among the youth.
Many Nigerians have been reported to be entangled in the bad crisis involving illegal immigration and asylum as they leave the country through unauthorized ways, method and routes in search of greener pasture. These constant emigration can be attributed to the inherent desperation to live better life, find better value for their skills and or escape the harsh living standard in Nigeria. Lives, dreams and hope are lost in this process.
Nigeria boasts of being home to millions of untapped talents, intelligence and skills in the field of sports, technology, education, fashion and et cetera. There have been boosts in the Nollywood and entertainment industry with many making waves both home and abroad with their acting, production and marketing skills. Nigeria has also seen incredible talents in the footballing world with many making the country proud in their various clubs and tournaments. However, there are many more Nigerians with exceptional talents, business idea and skill living underground and only hoping of being found.
Kencilo Foundation has studied these ills and is looking to help in their own way possible to see that many people are given hope, nurtured and empowered in health and skills.
